Knots 3D is one of today’s featured apps on Free App A Day (FAAD)! Knots 3D will continue to be free today (9/11) and tomorrow (9/12).
Thanks to everyone who has downloaded the app during the past two days. The reviews have been encouraging and very fun to read!
A very nice review from the German iPhone Review site Appgefahren.
The entire review in German can be found here: Knots 3D: 80 Knoten für jede Situation
Another nice mention on the app review site Art of the iPhone.
Every good outdoorsman should know how to tie several different kinds of knots. The right knot could save your life someday. Knots 3D will not only show you how to tie knots via an animation, but also explains how the knot is commonly used and allows you to view the knot in a rotating 3D view. The app features 80 different knots.
Another sweet feature is a full-screen view where you can swipe your finger up or down to see the knot slowly built or undone, so you can take learning at your own pace. You can also pinch and reverse pinch to get a close up/farther away view of the knot. You can save favorite knots for fast access.
Knots 3D debuted on the Apple iTunes store a year ago today (9/9/2011)! To celebrate we are giving the app away for free today and tomorrow on iTunes and .99 on Google Play.
Knots 3D was featured today in the Apps Gone Free section on the popular review site AppAdvice!
Today’s Apps Gone Free: Knots 3D, BubbleFrame, Maxjournal And More!
Learn how to tie 80 different knots through 3D animations with Nynix’s reference app, Knots 3D. We also have an app that allows you to frame photos in bubbles, and …
Over the past year we have had numerous requests to translate Knots 3D into user’s native languages. We think it is now time to add internationalization(i18n) to our knot apps. To facilitate the translation process, we are opening up the translation work to our user community. Who better to translate the nuances of knot tying for a particular language than the native speakers of that language. If you would like to participate in the “crowd-sourced” translation/internationalization process, please sign up at http://crowdin.net/project/knots3d
The first task will be to translate the knot names and incorporate them into the app quickly. From there we will work on the user interface followed by the knot descriptions and usage. The initial target languages are Dutch, Japanese(日本語), Spanish(Español), Italian(Italiano), French(Français), German(Deutsch) ,Português, Pусский and 한국어 and 简化中国.
If your native language is not listed but you think you could be of assistance, please contact us at http://nynix.com/support/ and we can discuss it.
Thank you for your help with this project!
Knots 3D was included in the Ultimate List of Scouting Apps as compiled by Scouting Magazine (a Boy Scouts of America publication)!
Reblogged from Bryan on Scouting:
Once upon a time, we used maps printed on paper to find our way. We studied laminated sky charts to identify constellations. We counted seconds after thunder strikes to locate storms.
What were we thinking?
Today, thanks to the ubiquitous smartphone, we can do all that and more with a few taps.
As Scout leaders, we can now carry a library, GPS, weather radio, compass, map, camera, and field guide in our pocket.
There have been several reports that Knots 3D will not install on some older Samsung devices due to cache limitations on these devices. The devices I am aware of are Samsung Captivate and Samsung Galaxy S. The Samsung Captivate is AT&T’s version of the Samsung Galaxy S.
Other Variants of Samsung Galaxy S (Released Early 2010):
- Samsung Captivate (ATT)
- Samsung Epic 4G (Sprint)
- Samsung Fascinate (Verizon)
- Samsung Vibrant (T-Mobile)
The error message some people are getting: “Error Downloading Insufficient space on device”
This error comes despite plenty of free space on both external and internal storage ie > 1GB. Since Knots 3D is around 33MB at present, why this error message? Well, it turns out that the memory the error message is referring to is the cache partition. The cache size limit on these Samsung devices is 30MB. This means any app, including ours, larger than 30MB, is more than likely seeing this issue. This is a device specific environment thing and completely outside the control of Knots 3D, Google Play, Amazon, etc. There is nothing we can do although a possible workaround (try at your own risk) is mentioned in a link below. If the free version (13MB) of Knots 3D is installing successfully, then that also confirms this might be the cause of the problem.

We received an email from Google Play yesterday indicating that certain apps on certain devices were failing to launch due to an issue within Google Play. Google has resolved the issue but requires all of the affected apps to be re-released with an incremented version number. A copy of the Service Notification has been pasted below. This is strictly a Google Play issue and does not affect the other app stores (iTunes, Amazon, BN).
We have updated both Knots 3D (v2.8.1) and Knots 3D – Free Knot Edition (v1.1.1) on Google Play and they should be available shortly.
Subject: Google Play Service Notification: APK update required for your apps
Dear Google Play developer,
We have identified one or more of your applications as being affected by a recent issue in Google Play that prevents some users from launching your app. To resolve the issue, you need to publish an update as soon as possible. This will cause your users to receive an update, which will fix the issue.
The underlying cause was an error in the Google Play update logic that resulted in native libraries being incorrectly installed during updates of affected applications for users running Android 4.1 (Jellybean), who installed an update of your application between August 1 to August 5. This affects a small minority of applications, specifically non-forward-locked paid applications that use the NDK and native libraries.
No change to your application is required. Simply increment your versionCode in your Android manifest file, generate a new APK, and publish it through Google Play.
We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you and your users. The underlying cause has now been rectified, and steps have been taken to ensure similar issues don’t arise in the future.
Sincerely,
The Google Play team© 2012 Google Inc. 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043
