Another nice mention on the app review site Art of the iPhone.
Every good outdoorsman should know how to tie several different kinds of knots. The right knot could save your life someday. Knots 3D will not only show you how to tie knots via an animation, but also explains how the knot is commonly used and allows you to view the knot in a rotating 3D view. The app features 80 different knots.
Another sweet feature is a full-screen view where you can swipe your finger up or down to see the knot slowly built or undone, so you can take learning at your own pace. You can also pinch and reverse pinch to get a close up/farther away view of the knot. You can save favorite knots for fast access.

Knots 3D was included in the Ultimate List of Scouting Apps as compiled by Scouting Magazine (a Boy Scouts of America publication)!
Reblogged from Bryan on Scouting:
Once upon a time, we used maps printed on paper to find our way. We studied laminated sky charts to identify constellations. We counted seconds after thunder strikes to locate storms.
What were we thinking?
Today, thanks to the ubiquitous smartphone, we can do all that and more with a few taps.
As Scout leaders, we can now carry a library, GPS, weather radio, compass, map, camera, and field guide in our pocket.
Knots 3D was mentioned as a great outdoor resource in the Springfield, Illinois newspaper The State Journal-Register
Outdoors? There’s an app for that
Knots 3D
This app can help even the most helpless Scouting washout tie a proper knot in a variety of situations. Tap on the type of knot preferred, and an animation plays. The two ends of the line or rope are colored blue and red so it is easy to see how the knot is tied.
Weekend anglers and boaters need not worry about forgetting knots again.

3D Animated Knots: Knots Handbook on the iPhone
The more applications that come out, the more the iPhone is a textbook in many areas. After apps for city trips, recreational boaters and diseases that you may incur on vacation, the portable encyclopedias become more specific. There is now the Animated Knots 3D application. Which includes detailed 3D animations of 35 different knots that may be helpful for sailing, climbing, scouting and camping.
The 35 knots are divided into different categories, yet perhaps only a um, ‘nocturnal’ section missing. Furthermore, the knots are assigned to a complete list, boats, camping, climbing, decorative, first aid, fishing and scouting. The list can also be viewed by type of knot: bend, binding, hitches, loops, multi-loops, special and stoppers. For each knot is a brief description, the strength, other names for the knot and the related knots. But it is the animations that steal the show.
The moment you select a knot, you see an animation of how the knot is put together. Then you can knot to your heart’s content in every possible way. Draw to repeat the animation, you can pause at any time by again pressing the button. The 360-rotate button allows you to view it from all sides. This function also lets you pause. Mirror flips the image, and the nice thing is that function at all times of break from the Draw and 360 works. The Zoom function Finally, see the aforementioned full screen.
Perhaps an overview of the reliability of the knots could be an option, but then it is often irrelevant because different situations require different knots.
